More FTZ firms make it onto the top 100 enterprises lists in the city

The Shanghai Commission of Commerce recently released four 2017 top 100 enterprises lists in terms of business income, import and export volume, total tax payment and jobs provided.

Ninety-three companies operating in the city’s free trade zone made it onto the lists, including Apple Computer Trading (Shanghai) Co, Samsung Semiconductor Inc. and Jaguar Land Rover Public Co Ltd.

Among the companies, 22 were listed among the top 100 enterprises in terms of business income; 40 were selected as the companies with the highest export and import volume; 23 were on the list of the biggest tax payment and eight companies offered the most job opportunities.

The winning 93 companies indicate that companies operating in the FTZ are attracting ever more foreign investment. The number of foreign companies in the FTZ account for 12.5 percent of the total in Shanghai, or 22 percent of the companies that made it onto the list of top 100 enterprises with the biggest business income. Apple, Samsung, and Yanfeng Global Automotive Interiors made it to the top 10 of the foreign enterprises with the highest business income list.

The FTZ attracted 40 percent of the companies that were on the list of the top 100 import and export foreign companies. In 2017, the FTZ’s companies sealed annual import and export deals worth 922 billion yuan (US$133.7 billion), or 28.6 percent of the city’s total.

Also, 23 foreign companies in the FTZ were on the list of top 100 enterprises with the highest tax payment. Since the establishment of the FTZ, the companies’ industrial and commercial tax payment in the zone has been increasing about 9.2 percent annually, which is 50 percent more than the total of industrial and commercial tax payment in the countries’ 130 customs special supervision areas.
