Yangshan Port starts pilot program for international maritime equipment maintenance

MAN Supply Chain Management (Shanghai), based in Yangshan Bonded Port, has started to provide ship maintenance service to Star Cruises’s Super Virgo cruise ship docking at Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal, which involved two diesel engine air coolers, worth 10,000 euros (US$12,319).

The maintenance service marks the initiation of the cross-harbor pilot program of international maritime equipment maintenance in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone and gives the zone a head start in the industry. For four years, the FTZ has been promoting innovations and reforms to develop international ship service industry and providing a good business environment with strong policy support.

The maintenance service also marks the zone’s capability to provide ship equipment service to ships that call at the ports of Shanghai, and it meets the needs for quick maintenance from the ships, and further upgrades Shanghai’s shipping industry service level.

Yangshan Bonded Port has gathered the top three domestic and overseas ship engine maintenance companies, namely, MAN Supply Chain Management, China State Shipbuilding Corporation, and China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. The business of ship equipment maintenance keeps growing, and the formation of international service function agglomeration area has been accelerated.

Next, the zone’s administration will work with Shanghai Customs to promote the scale of MAN’s supply chain businesses and the other two major ship equipment companies’ businesses, accelerate the settlement of bonded warehouse for marine materials, and improve the overall business environment for the industry.
