City introduces new projects to promote development of high-end shipping industry

The 8th International Shipping Strategic Development Forum was recently held in Pudong New Area in Shanghai and a batch of key shipping projects of Shanghai Free Trade Zone were signed at the forum.

The projects include high-end business training platform; the Belt and Road Initiative shipping industries investment and financing platform; and the initiation of Shanghai Ocean and Energy Industries Development Fund.

According to the 13th five-year plan regarding the shipping industry, Pudong New Area will develop high-end shipping industries, improve the capacity of global shipping service, shift from cargo oriented resource allocation to comprehensive resource allocation, and change the port distribution center into resource distribution center.

Lu Qixing, vice-director of Shanghai Commission of Commerce, said that since the shipping five-year plan was introduced, the city’s goal has shifted to the advancement of high-end service industries, and to increase its influence in the industry and resource allocation ability.

The projects signed at the forum will better the whole shipping industry, Lu added.
