Environmental impact assessment policy now in use

A new policy on assessing the environmental impact of planning and construction was recently implemented in 11 industrial parks in Shanghai, such as the Shanghai Free Trade Zone Bonded Area and the Lingang Heavy Equipment Industrial Park.
According to the city’s environmental protection authority, about 20 percent of the city’s planning and construction projects have been included in the key industries list to enhance environmental supervision of high-risk projects.
About 80 percent of the projects not included in the list can enjoy certain exemptions from the EA or simplified approval procedures in accordance with the situation of different industries.
The new policy is a move to improve the city’s one-stop government affairs service and save time and cost of enterprises.
