Polymer additive export heralds certificate of origin landmark

German chemical firm BASF exported polymer additives worth US$50,000 from Shanghai to its company in Kaohsiung, China’s Taiwan, on May 23, and BASF Taiwan printed out a certificate of origin, with digital seals and signatures from Shanghai Customs, in Kaohsiung directly the same day.

It’s China’s first certificate of origin printed out overseas by an importer directly.

With the certificate, the polymer additives were successfully cleared and BASF Taiwan got a tariff reduction of US$2,502.

In addition, the practice shortens the time for importers to receive the certificate of origin and avoid the risk of losing documents in courier service. And at the same time it reduced the cost for shipping the printed certificate.
