Shanghai’s total foreign trade volume up 7.3% year-on-year

Last year, total foreign trade volume at Shanghai customs port grew 7.3 percent from a year earlier to reach 6.41 trillion yuan (US$971.52 billion), according to statistics from the city’s customs authority.

Exports increased 6 percent year-on-year to 3.71 trillion yuan and imports grew 9.2 percent to 2.7 trillion yuan from the previous year.

Last year, imports and exports of foreign-invested enterprises gained 4 percent to 3.51 trillion yuan, accounting for 54.7 percent of the city’s total amount.

Foreign trade volume of privately-owned enterprises reached 2 trillion in 2018, up 12.9 percent from a year earlier

Over 30 percent of the city’s imports are high-tech products, most of them integrated circuits, totaling 902.52 billion yuan.
